Competition Rules and Guidelines

Competition Schedule

  • Each season consists of 4 monthly tests
  • Spring Season: February, March, April, May
  • Fall Season: August, September, October, November
  • Tests are available from the 15th until the end of each month. Negotiate with your coach for a convenient test time.

Test Format and Scoring

  • Duration: 45 minutes
  • Questions:
    • 10 Multiple Choice Questions (5 points each)
    • 5 Integer Answer Questions (10 points each)
    • Integer answers must be between 0 and 1000
  • Season Scoring: Lowest test score is dropped; remaining tests weighted equally

Student Guidelines

  • Work independently - no calculators, online searches, or assistance from others
  • Browser activities are monitored for academic integrity
  • Students suspected of cheating will receive a score of 0 without requirement for explanation
  • If bathroom breaks are needed, use the pause feature (timer continues)

Coach Responsibilities

  • Coordinate test times with students
  • Validate testing sessions (students have 1-hour window to begin)
  • In-person monitoring is strongly recommended
  • Missed validation windows result in a score of 0

Grade-Level Problem Scope

  • Grade 3: Decimal arithmetic, division with large numbers
  • Grade 4: Fractions, exponents, square roots, basic shapes
  • Grade 5: Pre-algebra curriculum, such as variables, ratios and basic rates
  • Grade 6: Advanced pre-algebra, counting, probability
  • Grade 7: Algebra 1 curriculum, including inequalities, coordinates, and basic functions
  • Grade 8: Geometry and AMC8-level problems
